THE OPERATING HOURS FOR LABORATORIES & WORKSHOPS FKTM

  1. The operating hours for laboratories & workshops are as follows:
    • From 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on regular working days (except Friday)
    • From 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and from 2:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays 
  1. If you need to use the laboratory after working hours or on weekends, PERMISSION must be obtained from the DEAN by completing the Laboratory Usage Permission Form THREE (3) days before the required date.

LABORATORY & WORKSHOP REGULATIONS

To prevent accidents at the FKTM due to negligence or unsafe actions, staff, students, contractors, and visitors must:-

  1. Follow all safety instructions while at the FKTM and be aware of and concerned about the safety of the surrounding work environment.
  1. SAFETY IS A PRIORITY. Please ensure that you have read, understood, and complied with all laboratory regulations.
  1. Laboratories and storage rooms are considered RESTRICTED AREAS for students. Students are NOT ALLOWED to enter laboratories and storage rooms without permission from laboratory staff.
  1. Only writing tools, practical manuals, and reference books may be used in laboratories. Unrelated books, bags, and other items should be placed in designated storage areas.
  1. All students must wear appropriate clothing. Wearing a LAB COAT is MANDATORY.
  1. For those with long hair, it must be tied back and the headscarf must be placed inside your lab coat. Loose clothing, jewelry, and shoes made of woven materials are not encouraged.
  1. Closed-toe shoes are MANDATORY. Students are NOT ALLOWED to wear open-toe shoes or sandals or high-heeled or open-toed shoes in the laboratory.
  1. Students are not allowed to conduct experiments without supervision. Unauthorized experiments, laboratory work, and preparation are NOT ALLOWED. Read, understand, and comply with the procedures established for each experiment.
  1. Conducting experiments without supervision is PROHIBITED.
  1. Ensure that all equipment and materials are stored in the correct location and that your work area is always clean and tidy.
  1. Use the correct and safe tools and equipment when working.
  1. Obtain permission to use, repair, and maintain equipment before using it.
  1. Students must be aware of the location and proper use of all safety equipment, including:
    • Emergency phone numbers
    • First aid kit
    • Fire extinguishers and alarms
    • Safety showers
  1. Always read and understand the safety procedures for different materials and equipment. Please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), laboratory manuals, lecturers, or technical staff for further information.
  1. Use approved personal protective equipment and ensure that it is always in good condition.
  1. Avoid joking or disturbing others while performing experiments/working.
  1. Use proper methods when lifting objects and seek assistance if necessary.
  1. Know that smoking and open burning are prohibited in the FKTM-UniMAP area.
  1. Comply with all instructions, guidelines, warning signs, regulations, and laws of the FKTM.
  1. Refer to the relevant PTj for guidance on occupational health and safety.
  1. Identify the exit doors and emergency routes for the building you are in.
  1. Immediately report any unsafe actions or conditions that may cause injury to humans or damage to property.
  1. Avoid looking directly at light sources as direct exposure can cause eye damage.
  1. Clearly label all samples or containers to avoid mistakes.
  1. Do not remove chemicals from the laboratory or storage room without permission.
  1. Report immediately and seek assistance if you or the equipment you are handling is involved in an accident.
  1. Never operate electrical equipment near a water source. Ensure that the floor and all work surfaces are dry.
  1. Do not use batteries, electrical equipment, magnets, and other items unless they are provided for teaching purposes.
  1. Before leaving the laboratory, please ensure that:
    • All gas, electrical, and water sources have been turned off.
    • All equipment is packed and arranged neatly
    • All chemicals and reagent bottles are stored
    • All work areas are cleaned and chairs are stored
  1. All equipment or tools in the laboratory and storage room belong to FKTM. Students are NOT ALLOWED to bring any equipment or tools out of the laboratory without permission.
  1. Notify the lecturer or laboratory staff immediately in case of injury, spillage, fire, or explosion.
  1. In case of emergency/fire, follow the instructions of the lecturer or technical staff present at the scene.
  1. Request permission before starting a task and request permission to leave after completing a task related to machine usage.
  1. Always ensure that the laboratory and workshop are clean and tidy, and all equipment such as machines are in satisfactory and safe condition.
  1. Use equipment properly according to established standard operating procedures and instructor guidelines when working in laboratories and workshops.
  1. Users are prohibited from interfering with any computer wiring connections or making any modifications or attempting to repair any damage themselves.
  1. Do not modify or install software without the knowledge of Technical Staff.
  1. Users are prohibited from browsing immoral websites or accessing content that touches on sensitive issues related to society, race, or country.
  1. All work results should be stored in the user’s storage such as “Google Drive”.
  1. Do not move or transfer any computer equipment or tools without permission.
  1. All equipment switches used must be turned off before leaving the computer lab.
  1. Rearrange chairs neatly and ensure that no trash is left before leaving the computer lab.
  1. Report any damage or loss of all hardware and software equipment to the laboratory Technical Staff.
  1. Store and leave used equipment in a safe place provided.
  1. Leave the laboratory/workshop as soon as possible while practicing what has been learned when the fire alarm rings.
